1/1/2024 0 Comments Gary glitter t shirtsMaybe there were some shirts from an early batch on sale on the day as well as later batches ? Unless these shirts were unofficial merchandise ? There were people selling an unofficial programme outside afterwards, but i didnt bother to get one, as I'd already bought the official programme. I know for a fact there was a black t shirt with the cast list on the back, that included mr glitter on sale on the day as i was stood for 4 hours behind a group of guys wearing them ! 8 -) ( and no my memories not playing tricks on me, as i remembered thinking at the time, oh no not gary glitter ). I can't immediately find any pics, but do have at least 2 T shirts from that day. Every official T shirt had the exact same cast list. It definately said on the back of one of the Black official T shirts that Gary Glitter was on the bill. It has also been rumoured that Roger Taylor was going to sing Old Friends ( from the Happiness album ) although if this is true or not I dont know. It was in the OIQFC summer 1992 magazine that it said Chris Thompson was going to sing A kind Of Magic, but this was dropped due to the gig over running. I also remember Alan "Fluff " Freeman on the Radio 1 Rock show on the saturday night ( would have been saturday 18th April 1992 ) interviewing Slash, Slash stated that GnR were doing FOUR songs, on the day they only played two, Paradise City and Knocking On Heavens Door. I remember waiting outside for the gig that Easter monday and it definately said on the back of one of the Black official T shirts that Gary Glitter was on the bill. I'm amazed such tenuous unsubstantiated bollocks has had as many replies as it has.Įven you don't know what your own source is! I can't see Brian an Roger taking him seriously in 92, he was not up to perforing on stage to a Wembley size crowd. I doubt Mr Glitter would have been invited, there was a lot of friction between Fred and Gary at one point when Freddie came out under the name Larry Lurex, I believe legal letters were flying around. I was supposed to be quoting Pim there too! And although Spinal Tap fooked it up with their problems, I actually thought tha they were quite good. Im pretty sure it was him who was supposed to sing AKOM with Roger, I could be wrong.but yeah, I read that he had a song dropped. If he argued with the band, it's quite obvious he wouldn't be featured on the DVD. Wasn't Chris Thompson supposed to sing a song too? Ps - Pity the poor bugger who had to tell (out of all the bands there), Axl Rose that he had to drop a song!!! Shame really, as would the Council really have imposed a fine for running late for a charity concert? Roger was due to sing A Kind Of Magic too but that sadly went by the wayside. I know that Guns N Roses dropped Sweet Child O Mine from their set as Spinal Tap overran due to gear problems. I'm sure they just tagged along to watch the show as friends and came on for the finale. I'm sure that Squier and The Scorps were never planned to play (they weren't on the t shirts that were printed well in advance) and so weren't dropped on the day. maybe 'Another 1984'?Įdit: it was actually 'Emotions In Motion'. I know Freddie and Brian played with Billy (>no pun intended, even though this is a Gary Glitter thread>no pun intended, even though this is a Gary Glitter thread<<), but did Roger as well? I know Billy has used Bobby Chouinard on just about every record, but Steve Ferrone made an appearance.įrom memory, I think Roger sang backing vocals on a few Billy Squier songs. I remember thinking that I didn't know what to expect on the day, who would be playing, would Queen just play a bit part etc.īilly Squier and the Scorpions were dropped but appeared in the finale, Freddie wrote at least two tracks with Squier on his Enough is Enough album and Fred, Brian and Roger all performed on other albums of his. I'm sure he was soon struck from the list of invited singers for blabbing this - there was absolutely no press that I was aware of prior to the event that released what format the concert would take, and that's how Queen wanted it. I definitely remember this - at the time he gave a big interview to one of the UK tabloids saying that he was going to sing Crazy Little Thing Called Love. What a load of old cobblers.- theres no sign of him in the rehearsals on the dvd. I hadn't read this before, and can't find any confirmation on the internet about this.Īnyone remember this, or have a link? I thought it was an interesting tidbit of information, and man am I glad he wasn't a part of the show.Īctually he heard it was an Adults Only show, so he decided not to go. I read somewhere (Wiki maybe) that Gary Glitter was originally slated to open the show, but he was asked to keep quiet about the concert and he went and talked to the tabloids and as a result was dis-invited.
